“The Egyptian people want freedom, free and fair elections, they want a representative government, they want a responsive government,” Obama told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly in a live pre-game interview on Super Bowl Sunday. “We’ve said, ‘You have to start a transition now.’ ”
The president of the United States shows up again with a mixed message to the world. Now, he is facing the press after a controversial weekend. His ambassador to Egypt, Frank Wisner, said Mubarak “must stay in office to steer those changes through… This is an ideal moment for him to show the way forward”. Although the Whitehouse disproves such comment, and perhaps not to appear too attached to the dictator, everything aims at the favouritisms of Washington in a more gradual transition under the guidance of newly named Vice President Omar Suleiman.
To this fact I can only add that there is no lie to reassure the position of the Whitehouse as to subserve the Egyptian’s government, which now, after 30 years, turns out dictatorship? Double standards as always, I may say. However, the real conflict for the United States now it is the Muslims Brotherhood menace, which materializes as the main assignee, as the only organized element across Egypt’s fragmented political scenery.
Today, all the efforts joint together to restore the “democracy” in Egypt after 30 years of friendship and support to Mubarak´s leadership in Egypt.
I conclude that the position of the United States is merely a strategy, as usual is protecting their interests in the region. What Obama or Washington said or did not say is ultimately irrelevant in the course of events.
